VerifyCitations is operated by Web Asset House. This policy explains what we collect and why.

Text you paste into the checker

Your text is processed in memory to find and check citations, then discarded. We do not store it, log it, or use it for any other purpose. It is not sent to any third party. The only parts that leave our server are DOIs, which we send to Crossref and OpenAlex to look them up. We cache the public metadata those services return (for example, an article title) for up to 30 days. We never cache your text.

Bot protection and rate limits

We use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated abuse, and we limit how many checks one IP address can run per minute. Your IP address is used for these purposes while the request is handled and is not stored by us. Cloudflare processes requests as our hosting provider under its own privacy policy.

Newsletter

If you sign up for Fake Citation Watch, we store your email address, the consent text you agreed to, the page where you signed up, and the dates you signed up, confirmed, or unsubscribed. We do not store your IP address. You are not subscribed until you click the confirmation link. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Analytics and cookies

We do not use advertising or third-party trackers. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies. The checker does not set cookies.
